Sarah Nicole McGregor
Elected

Kia ora. My name is Sarah McGregor and I am standing for the Birkenhead Primary School Board of Trustees. I have three children, Evan and Xanthe, who currently attend BPS, and Heath who will join them at the start of 2024. I am a Psychologist with significant experience supporting children and their families. I am passionate about improving the educational and wider wellbeing outcomes of children and young people in our community. I believe it is important our children thrive and enjoy school as this sets the foundation for a bright future where they can reach their goals, show kindness to others, feel fulfilled and happy, and make valuable contributions to their community and the environment. I am committed to honouring the Treaty of Waitangi, and as a Board Member I would be committed to ensuring that the school delivers the current high levels of achievement that we all want for our children’s education.

I consider myself to be approachable, reliable, open-minded and good with people. I am a true collaborator that believes together we can always come up with better solutions than on our own. In addition to my paid work, I have spent over 20 years in a Governance and volunteer capacity in a number of different organisations in both education and our community. Most recently I was on the Board for Highbury Community House and Early Learning Centre for 8 years. My positions included Chairperson with full budget responsibility, HR responsibilities, strategic planning and recently leading through the Covid response. My unique and varied experience means I bring a diverse perspective which allows me to relate to the situations those people in the school community find themselves in.

Leo Henry Taefu
Elected

I am a professional athlete with over 10 years experience in professional rugby across numerous professional teams in different countries. I have a Bachelor in Applied Management and also a Director on a local governance board in the Northshore area. I have gained diverse skills and experiences throughout my career that are invaluable to any organisation.

The reason I am applying for this position is because I have two children at Birkenhead Primary and another who will be enrolled in 2025. I want to be their voice and help shape their future. I am a proud Samoan and I want my Tamariki and other children at Birkenhead to be proud of who they are and embrace what makes them unique.

As a leader in my teams and in my community I believe that I am the right candidate who has the strategic thinking, problem solving and diverse and international experiences who can add a lot of value to the Birkenhead Primary School Board.
